Most times witches look for an existing spell when they wish to try and achieve something, whether this is a love spell, a healing spell or any other kind of spell. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with writing your own spells and very possibly much to be gained.
If you wish to try writing your own spells (spellcrafting) it helps to write things out as an outline first and then work out the ritual from there. As you get more experienced at writing spells you will probably find that you won't need to write out the entire outline each time.
Define the goal of the spell or ritual.
Decide when and where you will work your magick, keeping in mind lunar phases and days of the week.
Find or create an appropriate chant or affirmation for the spell.
If a God or Goddess is to be invoked, write out any special prayers that you will use to call that deity.
Plan how you will visualize your goal in your mind and describe it.
Decide on any correspondences i.e. herbs, colors, or elements that you want in your ritual and write these down.
With all this information written out you are ready to decide how you will perform the ritual or magick. At a time that you have deemed appropriate, gather together all the items you will need for your spell and go to the place where you will be performing the ritual.
Cast your circle.
Invite any deities you wish to have present. Light incense to invite the God and Goddess into your circle.
Clear your mind and begin visualizing your goal as you planned. Stating your goal out loud if you want to.
Raise energy within yourself as you use your chant, or raise energy without a chant if you would prefer.
Light your candles, charge your stones, do whatever you need to focus your attention and raise energy.
Here is where you should involve any correspondences in the spell.
When you feel that you have put as much energy into your spell as you possibly can, send the energy out to do your will.
Finish your spell by stating "So mote it be" or "This is my will, so it shall be".
Close your circle and thank any deities who have been with you.
Ground your energy.
Have your cakes and ale, or cookies and juice if you prefer.
Record your ritual spell in your Book of Shadows and save any remaining items that you wish in your witch's box.
